THE DIFFERENCE YOU CAN’T SEE

Why Two Identical-Looking Items Don't Match

A list diff is only worth reading if the three numbers are true. Lists copied out of a CRM, a PDF, or a spreadsheet carry things you cannot see. A capital letter, a trailing space, a zero-width space, or a Cyrillic О standing in for a zero is enough to break a match.

sku-40131 and SKU-40131 look the same on screen. Compared literally, they are two different items — and both sides of your diff come out too high. You act on 47 differences when the real number is 41.

Every other list comparison tool leaves you to notice this on your own, usually by re-reading its FAQ. This one says it out loud, above the results:

A small difference. An inflated count.

Treat as matchesShow which

Treat as matches merges them instantly, and the three counts update in place. Show which expands every pair with the differing characters highlighted, so you can judge them one at a time. Either way you find out before you copy the results — not after someone asks why the numbers do not add up.

BUILT FOR THE EVERYDAY DIFF

What This List Diff Tool Does

Real-Time List Comparison

Compare two lists without waiting for an upload or clicking a separate button. The results update as you type, paste, or change a matching option, so differences appear right away.

Three Clear Result Groups

See items only in List A, items in both lists, and items only in List B. Each group carries its own count, so those three numbers are the whole answer. A combined A + B list is not one of the groups, because that is a merge rather than a diff.

Smarter Matching for Messy Data

Use the case-insensitive option to treat Apple and apple as the same item. You can also trim spaces, ignore hidden characters, and collapse duplicates, so formatting noise stops creating false differences.

Drag-and-Drop File Uploads

Paste a column straight from Excel, or drag a .txt or .csv file into either input area. Common separators are detected automatically, so you start with less cleanup.

Private Browser-Based Processing

Every comparison runs locally, and your lists stay on your device. No list data is uploaded, stored on our servers, or exposed through session-recording tools.

One-Click Copy and Download

Copy any result group to your clipboard, or download it as a text file. The copy always includes every item, even when a long result is shortened on screen to keep the page fast.

Original Data Stays Readable

Matching rules improve accuracy without rewriting your entries. Results show exactly the text you pasted, which makes them easy to verify and reuse in the next step of your workflow.

YOUR LISTS, YOUR WORKFLOW

What Can You Use a List Diff Tool For?

Clean and Deduplicate Email Lists

Export subscribers from your email platform and leads from your CRM, then paste one into each side. You will see which addresses are new, which are missing, and which are shared. Collapse duplicates before the next import so nobody gets contacted twice.

Find Duplicates and Missing Items Between Two Exports

Compare two exports of the same data to find duplicate entries, missing items, and unique values. Duplicates inside a single list collapse automatically, so a name repeated three times counts once.

Compare Two Columns from Excel or Google Sheets

Select a column, copy it, and paste it straight into List A. Paste the second column into List B. The list diff between the two columns appears immediately, showing the set difference in both directions — no VLOOKUP, no COUNTIF, no formula to debug.

Clean and Reconcile CSV Data

Drop a .csv file into either side, or paste a single column from it. Missing records and unexpected additions become easy to review before a migration or a bulk update.

Compare IDs, URLs, and Usernames Across Environments

Check record IDs, allowed URLs, package names, or configuration values between staging and production. Case, whitespace, and hidden-character handling keeps formatting noise from looking like a real change.

Find Gaps Between SEO Keyword Lists

Paste your current keyword list into List A and a competitor research export into List B. The comparison shows shared terms, missed opportunities, and keywords unique to either source.

Reconcile Inventory or Student Lists

Compare inventory SKUs from a supplier sheet against your warehouse export, or student rosters from two reporting periods. Added, removed, and unmatched entries surface without sorting a single row.

PASTE. CHECK. TAKE IT WITH YOU.

How to Compare Two Lists Online

  1. Step 1: Paste or Upload Your Lists

Paste your first set of items into List A and your second set into List B. You can also drag and drop a .txt or .csv file into either side. Add one item per line, or let the tool detect a common separator. Your list diff begins automatically.

  2. Step 2: Choose How Items Should Match

Adjust the matching options if your data needs cleanup. You can ignore letter case, trim spaces, remove hidden characters, collapse duplicates, or sort the results. Your original values stay readable throughout. If the defaults already fit your lists, leave them alone.

  3. Step 3: Get Instant Results

As soon as both lists contain data, you will see items only in List A, items in both lists, and items only in List B. Each group includes a count and controls to copy or download every result. It takes seconds to compare two lists and find differences, with no signup and no manual formulas.

A FEW MORE ANSWERS

Frequently Asked Questions About List Diff

What is a list diff tool?

A list diff tool compares two sets of items and shows what is unique to each list and what appears in both. It is a quick way to check emails, IDs, URLs, keywords, SKUs, or usernames without reading every entry by hand.

How do I compare two lists?

Paste one set of items into List A and the other into List B, one item per line. You can also upload a supported file. The comparison runs automatically and sorts the results into Only in A, In both, and Only in B. There is no Compare button to click.

Why don't two items that look identical match?

Because something invisible differs: letter case, a leading or trailing space, a zero-width space, or a look-alike character from another alphabet. The tool detects those pairs and reports them above the results, so your list diff is not quietly inflated. You can merge them with one click, or expand each pair to see which characters differ.

Can I upload files instead of pasting?

Yes. Select or drag and drop a .txt or .csv file into either list area. The file is read in your browser and never uploaded. For the clearest results, export only the column you want to compare.

Does the tool work without registration?

Yes. This list comparison tool is free and needs no account, login, or subscription. Open the page, add your lists, and read the results in seconds.

Is my data safe, and where is it stored?

Your list contents stay in your browser. They are never uploaded to or stored on our servers. The site uses no cookies, no browser-side storage, no session recordings, and no heatmaps. If analytics is enabled, it receives only aggregate numbers such as list sizes — never the items in your lists.

Can I compare lists case-insensitively?

Yes. Ignore case is on by default, so Apple and apple count as the same item. Turn it off when capitalization matters, such as for case-sensitive IDs or code values.

What output formats are available?

Every result group can be copied as plain text, one item per line, or downloaded as a .txt file. The copy always includes every item, even when a long list is shortened on screen. JSON, HTML, and CSV export are not part of this version.

Can I compare more than two lists?

This list diff tool compares two lists at a time. To check more, compare them in pairs and copy or download the group you need. That result becomes List A for the next comparison.

Is this the same as a list comparator or diff checker?

Yes. List diff tool, list comparator, list comparison tool, and list difference checker all describe the same job. Unlike a character-by-character text diff, this tool treats each line as one item. It tells you which items match and which do not.
